Ayshia Taskin (b. 1986) began her artistic endeavors at the College of West of Scotland – Fine Art, Glasgow Clyde College to study Contemporary Art Practices and Edinburgh College of Art.

I am a visual and performance artist…why performance art? Performance art as a medium initiates an environment ripe for collaboration, exploration and self-reflection. Performance art is usually visceral, bringing forth our innermost emotions and curiosities. In doing this I encompass elements of spoken word, humor, body movement, absurdity, ritual and visual stimuli…paired with an investigative process in order to create a crossover between theories and physical actions.

Concepts explored within my work range from themes regarding community, connections, collaboration, and communication, which are inspired by many facets including, but not limited to: nature, society, everyday-ness, psychology, ritual and how they create the fabric of societies and communities.
